Stanhopea oculata is a stunning orchid species that is native to Central and South America. This orchid typically blooms in the late spring or early summer, producing large and intricate flowers that can measure up to 4 1/2″ in diameter. The flowers are usually a mix of yellow and white, with a large lip that features red and purple spots. One of the most striking aspects of this orchid is its noticeable fragrance, which has been described as “mint chocolate ice-cream” when in bloom.
